SUNDOME BUSY DURING EARLY JUNE
The Yakima Valley SunDome has been busy the past two weeks with 7 local high school graduations, representing 1601 graduates. Graduations began on June 2nd with Davis (342 graduates), followed by Eisenhower (337 graduates), West Valley (271 graduates), Selah (234 graduates), Naches (110 graduates) and Wapato (143 graduates). The final 2010 graduation for East Valley (164 graduates) took place Saturday, June 12th.
Through the years, the physical size of area high schools limited the number of guests that each senior could invite. Shifting graduations to the SunDome has allowed entire families to attend their senior student’s graduation while providing an air-conditioned atmosphere, comfortable seating and adequate parking. More than 22,000 people have attended the 2010 graduations in the SunDome in addition to the graduates. Many family members come from out of the area to attend which creates a positive economic impact for our community. Retail stores, restaurants, lodging and fuel sales all benefit from these celebrations.
Greg Stewart, President and General Manager of State Fair Park, says that “State Fair Park and the SunDome play a major role in the graduation ceremonies. We’re happy to be a part of this joyous occasion for these graduates and their families. Our entire organization wishes these, and all area graduating seniors a heartfelt congratulation and a successful future.”
